OVERVIEW OF IDEAS 2012
International Defence Exhibition and Seminar (IDEAS) is the biggest defence exhibition of international stature, held biennially in Pakistan.
IDEAS–2012 was successfully conducted from 7-11 November 2012, at Expo Center, Karachi. It was 7th in the series, since the inception of the Exhibition. Cancellation of IDEAS-2010 had created a gap of four years, throwing enormous responsibility on Defence Export Promotion Organization (DEPO) to undertake this gigantic task, meeting the pace set by IDEAS-2008. IDEAS–2012 had an opportunity and distinction to host participants from 57 countries. It also attracted 209 exhibitors, 80 foreign defence delegations (from 50 countries) including trade visitors. Without compromising on any of the security measures, it was ensured that the visiting dignitaries and exhibitors were treated with utmost respect and courtesy. DEPO made extraordinary efforts to eliminate all possible causes of embarrassment and inconvenience to the guests in the light of bitter experiences of the previous IDEAS. We appreciate the cooperative attitude of all the LEAs in making IDEAS-2012 the most courteous event, despite the unfavourable security environment. The intellectual forums like Seminar, Sideline Conferences and other events including Inauguration Ceremony, Governor’s Reception and the Exhibition itself provided opportunities for interaction and assisted towards portraying positive image of Pakistan.
Successful conduct of IDEAS-2012 is attributed to over a year-long meticulous planning / preparation by DEPO. Notwithstanding the adversities, the organizers of IDEAS-2012, following a well thought out and comprehensive campaign plan, were determined to make the event a grand success by turning the huge challenges and impossible odds into opportunities and advantages for the event. Ministry of Defence Production (MoDP) and the Armed Forces of Pakistan came to full support of DEPO, enabling it to make IDEAS-2012 a grand event. Besides achieving the laid down objectives, the mega event proved to be of immense value in creating favourable environment for commerce, trade and industry of Pakistan through the congregation of a large number of visitors, exhibitors and defence delegations from across the globe. DEPO is proud of individual, collective and synergetic effort that made IDEAS-2012 a great success. All the defence delegates, exhibitors, trade visitors and speakers of the Seminar / Side Line Conferences conveyed their appreciation for the elaborate planning, efficient organization, flawless and befitting conduct of this mega international event of our region. The forum indeed helped to project Pakistan as a modern, progressive and tolerant state that is determined to recover her distorted image.
The successful and dignified conduct of the mega event attains added prominence in view of the daunting security challenges and the stringent travel advisory that deterred foreigners to visit Pakistan. We at DEPO, on behalf of MoDP, acknowledge with gratitude the assistance and willing cooperation extended by the Federal Government, Sindh Government and the Armed Forces, enabling us to collectively measure up to the huge challenge.
