Admiral Maritime Datuk Mohd Amdan Bin Kurish assumed his current appointment as the Director General Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency on 5th May 2008.
Admiral Datuk Mohd Amdan was born in Gombak, Selangor in 1955.
He joined the service in 1974 and received his initial Naval training at the Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth, United Kingdom. He later subspecialized in Principal Warfare Office, at HMS DRYAD, United Kingdom. He also attended the Anti Submarine Warfare course at PNS
BAHADUR, Pakistan in 1983. He attended the Malaysian Armed Forces Staff College in 1992 and the Malaysian Armed Forces Defence College in 1998. He holds a Masters Degree in National Resource Strategies from the National Defence University, Washington D.C United State of America.
His naval career of approximately 35 years saw him in varied appointments. On promotion to First
Admiral he was appointed as the Chief of Staff to Fleet Operations Commander in 2002. Later he
was appointed as Commander, Naval Region 1 in Kuantan in 2003. After a year in that appointment
he was appointed as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Communication and Electronic Division at the
Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters in 2004. Assistant Chief of Staff Defence Operations and
Training at the Malaysian Armed Forces Headquarters from 7th June 2005 till July 2006. Before he
assumed his present post, he was the RMN Fleet Operations Commander from 28th Jul 2006 till
17th Apr 2008.
In recognition of his services, Admiral Datuk Mohd Amdan has been bestowed with various awards
and recognitions namely the Panglima Jasa Negara (P.J.N.), Seri Paduka Mahkota Kelantan Yang Amat
Perkasa (SPKK), Datuk Paduka Mahkota Selangor (DPMS), Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang.
He enjoys competitive golf and plays to handicap 14. He is married to Datin Siti Zawiyah and blessed
with four daughters and three sons. |
